Manchester United will be eyeing a winning conclusion to their pre-season tour of the United States when they face Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta tonight, kick-off 10pm BST.
United have enjoyed a successful Premier League Summer Series campaign thus far, winning each of their opening two games. They beat West Ham United 2-1 last weekend before beating Bournemouth 4-1 in midweek.
As a result, United just need to avoid a defeat against the Toffees to clinch the Summer Series trophy. David Moyes’ side have lost their opening two games, conceding five goals.
United head coach Ruben Amorim could hand summer signing Bryan Mbeumo his first appearance in United colours this evening after sitting out the opening two games of the tour due to a lack of match sharpness.
Elsewhere, Matheus Cunha is expected to return after missing the win over Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago due to fatigue.
That man Niclas Fullkrug has been among the goals again. Now is the wrong time but it would have been logical of United to have gone for him last summer, as forgettable as his first season was at West Ham. He’s a proper centre forward and would have been decent back-up for Rasmus Hojlund, who was quite rightly complaining in midweek about the lack of support he had from Anthony Martial.
The team news ahead of tonight’s clash between United and Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be revealed shortly.
We will bring you all of the all-important details on this blog as soon as we get them. Stay tuned.
There are leaflets on the press box desks that bill Atlanta as “the epicenter of soccer in the United States”. Seven millions fans have attended a soccer match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium since it opened and it will host World Cup matches next year.
In terms of facilities, it’s comparable with the SoFi. The Levi’s Stadium in San Jose is cool but it has probably been left behind by a couple of the new-builds in recent years. The NRG in Houston is towering but not as modern.
This stadium will host a World Cup semi-final next year and it really deserves to.
