Leipzig play host to Sporting Lisbon looking to get their first points of the league phase

RB Leipzig gear up to take on Portuguese outfits Sporting CP in round seven of the Champions League 2024-25 League Stage. This exciting clash is set to take place at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday.

RB Leipzig are coming into this tie on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against Bochum in the last match. However, their form in the UEFA Champions League has been a major concern after losing all the six matches they have played so far. Marco Rose’s side are already out of this competition with zero points but will be hoping to give the fans some joy by winning the remaining two matches.

Meanwhile, Sporting CP have a good chance of making the knockout round as they are three points behind the top eight. They have been in good form lately under their new coach Rui Borges who has helped the team to three wins and two draws in his first five matches.

They will feel they have a good chance of making the knockout rounds with the form they are in and the opponents they are going to face in the next two matches.

Benjamin Sesko is currently one of the best young forwards in Europe this season and is starting to consistently get on the score sheet. In his last four matches, Sesko has scored four consecutive goals to take his tally for the season to 13 goals in all competitions. While he missed the last game with suspension, Sesko is eligible to play here which will be a big boost for them.

Viktor Gyokeres is probably one of the best strikers in Europe right now who is shattering records with each passing game. The Swedish international boasts 32 goals in 31 matches in all competitions while also providing another five assists.

In the Champions League itself, he has registered five goals from six matches and looks a prime candidate to win this year’s Golden Boot. In his last four matches in all competitions, he has smashed six goals which shows the form he is in right now.

RB Leipzig are missing several key players on the sidelines. The list includes Andre Silva, Benjamin Henrichs, Castello Lukeba, Forzan Assan Ouedraogo, and Xaver Schlager due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Sporting CP will be without the pair of Nuno Santos and Pedro Goncalves due to ligament and muscle injury respectively.
