Inter will play their last home match of the season

Inter Milan will play their last home match of the season on Sunday afternoon. They host Lazio in one of the most interesting Matchday No 37 fixtures at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Can the Nerazzurri give their fans a victorious farewell from an extraordinary campaign?

Inter Milan won 14, drew 3, and lost 1 of 18 home outings in this term of Serie A. Lazio lost four of the previous seven away outings across competitions. The Nerazzurri go into this on the back of a 5-0 drubbing of Frosinone on the road.

Inter Milan have secured their landmark 20th Serie A title almost a month ago in a victory over bitter city rivals AC Milan. They are currently 18 points above the Rossoneri at the top of the standings. Simone Inzaghi’s men have a chance to break the team’s record for points in Serie A. Wins in the remaining two outings of the season would take them to 98 points, 1 more than their previous record-setting 2006/07 campaign.

Lazio will come into this tie in high spirits as well. A run of four wins and a draw in the last five league games brought the Biancocelesti up to 7th place in the league standings. Atalanta are four points away in 5th place with a game in hand on Lazio, meaning that Igor Tudor’s men will likely settle for a spot in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Inter Milan rebounded in some style after a shocking 0-1 defeat at Frosinone two weeks ago. The new champions demolished Frosinone 5-0 on the road last Friday. They now have three wins in the last four league rounds. The Nerazzurri are hoping to break their record from 2006/07 for the most points in a single season.

To do so, they need wins in the remaining two matches of the campaign. Lazio do have five wins and a draw in the last six games in all competitions but their away form has been nowhere near as impressive. The Biancocelesti lost four of the last seven away fixtures across competitions.
