France are unbeaten in their last five fixtures against Iceland

9 September 2025 - 11:52 am

The France national football team are ready to take on the Iceland national football team at the Parc des Princes for a fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers of the European region.

Les Bleus emerged victorious in their opening game of the World Cup qualifying after they easily took down Ukraine. However, the France national football team also faced a slight setback after Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue got injured. They will be at home for their next fixture and will be looking to secure their second straight win.

The Iceland national football team will be in for a tough contest as they have not been able to secure a positive outcome in their last few matches against France. They will be the visiting side keeping them under from the start. Iceland secured a win against Azerbaijan in their previous game.

Predicted line-ups
Ousmane Dembele suffered a hamstring injury against Ukraine on Friday night, and it has since been reported that the PSG ace is now facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.

Following Friday night’s five-star performance against Azerbaijan, Iceland boss Gunnlaugsson could stick with the same starting XI in Paris on Tuesday night.

Their opening game in this group saw France win 2-0 away to Ukraine (the match was played in Poland) with a goal in each half of the game. They are already assured a play-off position because of their run to the Nations League semi-finals but will fully expect to top this group.

The 2022 World Cup losing finalists last failed to qualify for the finals in 1994. Last year saw them get to the last four of the Euros. Only two of their last ten matches have ended in defeat. Tey have never lost to Iceland and five of their last six matches have seen over 3.5 goals scored in them.

Iceland top the table on goal difference after a 5-0 home win over Azerbaijan in their opening match. It took them until the 47th minute to open the scoring in that match. Only once have they made it into the World Cup finals. That was eight years ago.
