FULL TIME: Chelsea 5 – 0 West Ham

Chelsea picked up right where we left off on Thursday, with a three-goal first half …

Cole Palmer got the party started with a goal inside of 15 minutes. Conor Gallagher doubled that advantage 15 minutes later, and Noni Madueke quickly made it three as he headed in uncontested at the far post. Chelsea were flowing, irrepressible on the ball, and quick to win it back off of it.

West Ham didn’t offer much but did have a couple nearly moments in the first-half, with Jarrod Bowen twice hitting the crossbar, including on what would’ve been an immediate equalizer after our opening goal. Not to be outdone, Gallagher also pinged one off the crossbar.

West Ham came out with renewed intent in the second half, but Chelsea quickly put a stop to that with our fourth: Jackson tapping in for the easiest of goals just two minutes into the period.

That finally spurred West Ham into a bit of quality action, but former Blue Emerson blazed over from close range in the best chance of that sequence and after we stemmed the tide, the match was effectively over. And we hadn’t even reached the hour mark! At one point, we kept the ball for 4-5 minutes, just passing it around, West Ham almost literally on the beach already.

Madueke and Mudryk had chances to make it five, before Jackson finished a 1-v-1 chance with aplomb to make it so. Initially ruled offside, but fortune (and VAR) was in our favor, including the part where Bowen made it a hat-trick of crossbars after a deflected chance thanks to some lackadaisical defending on our part.

The crowd chanted “we want six”, but we would settle for the perfunctory 5-0. Ha! It’s our largest ever winning margin against West Ham.

We move up into seventh, at least temporarily, level on points with Manchester United, who play tomorrow, away at Crystal Palace. Our goal difference is 10 better right now than United’s. Newcastle won easily this weekend to move into sixth, at least for now, still two points ahead of us. Newcastle play Manchester United in two games.
