Bayern Munich look to extend their home unbeaten streak in the Champions League

Bayern Munich look to extend their home unbeaten streak in the Champions League to 16 games when they host Real Madrid in the first leg of their semifinal tie on Tuesday.

Bayern have registered 12 victories and three draws at home during UCL play since dropping a 3-2 decision to PSG in the 2020-21 quarterfinals. The Bavarians avoided being eliminated in the quarterfinals a fourth consecutive time by knocking off Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate earlier this month.

Real Madrid, who have won three straight Champions League knockout-round matchups against Bayern, defeated defending champion Manchester City 4-3 on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals.

Bayern Munich advanced to their 13th Champions League semi-final by edging past Arsenal in the quarter-final. Only one European team have more semi-final appearances in continent’s primary tournament. The name of that team is Real Madrid.

The two European heavyweights will lock horns in the first leg of their mouth-watering semi-final tie on Tuesday evening at Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich have had a disappointing campaign in the domestic league. After 11 consecutive Bundesliga title, they gave the throne to impeccable Bayer Leverkusen this year.

The Champions League success is the only way for Thomas Tuchel to potentially rescue the season. Can he make it past record-holding 14-time European champions?

The story is very much different with Real Madrid. They have all but clinched La Liga silverware after a big comeback win over bitter rivals Barcelona nine days ago.

The victory in El Clasico helped Los Blancos increase the gap at the top of the league standings to 11 points with just six games remaining.

This will be the eighth H2H clash between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the European Cup/Champions League semi-final. Bayern Munich advanced from four of the previous seven semi-final ties against Real Madrid in the elite continental competition.

Real Madrid go into this on the back of six wins and a draw in the previous seven encounters with the Bavarians. Each of these clashes happened in the knockout stages of the  Champions League.
