FULL TIME: Atalanta 2 – 1 Roma

Atalanta takes the direct clash for the Champions League: a brace from De Ketelaere, for Roma Pellegrini scores from a penalty kick.

The direct clash for Champions League qualification goes to Atalanta : a more than deserved success against Roma , a result that allows Juventus and Bologna to celebrate their arrival among the greats of Europe directly from the sofa.

Giallorossi still mentally devastated by the daring elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen: the waste of the comeback suffered in Germany is also felt at the ‘Gewiss Stadium’, where a real football massacre takes place.

After 20 minutes, the result was already 2-0: thanks to a superb De Ketelaere , fully at ease within the disastrous Roma defence. The Belgian even flirts with a hat-trick: his close-range shot hits the post, as does Koopmeiners’ free-kick from the edge of the box to a motionless Svilar.

De Rossi plays the card of the double heavy bomber by introducing Abraham at half-time, but the trend is almost the same as in the first half: Scamacca also tries to join the list of scorers, author of a commendable performance especially in the finishing phase.

Around Svilar there is a real siege, so much so that the episode of the penalty conceded by Guida is like an oasis in the desert for Roma: very doubtful whistle due to a clash of play between De Roon and Abraham, Pellegrini not he gets excited and shortens distances.

The 2-1 has the merit of at least igniting the comeback ambitions of Roma, who try to exploit the wave with the usual Pellegrini: Carnesecchi is ready. The former Cremonese player is also careful about Lukaku’s razor.

Atalanta returns to grind out play and opportunities in the final, when Koopmeiners sensationally wastes the ball to make it 3-1: he aims high with the goal wide open, which however does not jeopardize a success with enormous specific weight three days before the Italian Cup final.
