Atalanta go into this on the back of three straight league wins

A place in the next season of the UEFA Champions League will be on the line on Sunday evening as Atalanta host Roma in Matchday No 36 at Gewiss Stadium. The outfits enter the tie level on points at 5th place of the Serie A standings. Atalanta have a game in hand, meaning a potential win here would almost grant them a spot in the elite continental competition next year.

Atalanta go into this on the back of three straight league wins. Roma won just one of the last five matches across competitions. Both teams were on target in five of Roma’s previous six outings in all competitions.

Atalanta will go into this in a much better form. They’ve won three successive Serie A matches. Gianpeiro Gasperini rotated his starting XI on Monday against Salernitana. He almost got punished as the Dea had to chase a second-half comeback against the worst team in the league in Salerno. They eventually earned one through Gianluca Scamacca and substitute Teun Koopmeiners.

Roma extended their negative run with a 1-1 draw to Juventus last Sunday at Stadio Olimpico. Romelu Lukaku pushed the Romans in front but the Lupa could not hold on to the lead. They were the better team on the pitch throughout most of the game but had to settle for a point at the end.

Recent Meetings
Atalanta will come into this encouraged with two wins and a draw in the previous three encounters with the Giallorossi. The outfits shared spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in this season’s game in January in the capital. Only one of the previous four H2H affairs provided three or more goals.

Atalanta vs Roma Prediction
Both teams had Europa League semi-final duties on Thursday. Fatigue will affect them equally. In this case, we do fancy Atalanta who have been on a much better run of form lately. Also, the Dea own a strong home record this season. They won 11, drew 2, and lost 3 of the previous 16 home matches in the league.
