France will look to advance to the semifinals in front of their hometown country in men’s basketball on Tuesday when they face off against Canada in the quarterfinals.
Canada enters the matchup as heavy favorites after impressive pool play led by a host of NBA pros including Dillon Brooks and RJ Barrett.
They will have their hands full against a formidable France frontcourt led by Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama.
France looked strong in pool play out of the gate but were blown out by Germany in their last game, setting the stage for a tougher matchup against Canada. The winner will face Germany or Greece in the semifinals.
Canada was one of three countries at the Paris 2024 Olympics (Team USA and Germany being the other two) to come out of the men’s basketball tournament’s group stage of play undefeated. After their impressive 3-0 record in that first round, they’ll face Victor Wembanyama and Team France on Tuesday, August 6, for their quarterfinal at Paris’s Bercy Arena. France’s only loss during the group round was to Germany.
With San Antonio Spurs star Wembanyama playing to a home crowd, the pressure is on, and France will need to beat Canada to have a chance at a medal.
The knockout round and the rest of the tournament from here on out will take place in Paris at Bercy Arena. France vs. Canada will take place on Tuesday, August 6 at 12 p.m. ET. Here’s how to watch all of the quarterfinal games on Tuesday, and every other remaining men’s basketball game of the Paris Olympics.
