Man City take on Milan in second pre-season friendly of US tour

Manchester City’s preparations for the 2024/25 campaign continue in New York this weekend as they take on Serie A giants Milan on Saturday night.

Pep Guardiola has taken a youthful Cityzen squad across the pond and their inexperience showed in a 4-3 defeat to Celtic which opened up their tour. However, the City boss would have been pleased with the performance of Jack Grealish, while Erling Haaland got himself on the scoresheet.

Another stern test is around the corner in the form of the Rossoneri and keen Serie A watchers will be intrigued to see how they fare this summer given the club parted ways with longtime coach Stefano Pioli at the end of last season. Former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is back in Italy via Lille and leading Milan into 2024/25.

Ederson continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and has dealt with a fractured eye socket over the summer. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper has travelled to the United States and came off the bench to replace Stefan Ortega against Celtic.

Guardiola will likely deploy two different starting XIs at the start of each half, so there will once again be ample chances for the litany of academy stars the Spaniard has at his disposal to impress.

Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, Kalvin Phillips, Grealish and Haaland are among the familiar names that will feature in New York.
