Manchester City will be looking to return to winning ways in the first game of Matchday No 6 on Saturday afternoon at St. James’ Park.
The defending champions played out a 2-2 draw at home to the main title rivals Arsenal last weekend.
It was the clash between David and Goliath in the second half of the affair following Leandro Trossard’s red card just before the half-time break for Arsenal.
Manchester City registered 33 shots but they eventually managed to get the super-late equalizer through John Stones who sent the deflection behind David Raya’s back in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Pep Guardiola’s men are still the Premier League leaders with four wins and a draw in the inaugural five rounds.
As for Newcastle, they have produced their weakest performance of the campaign, falling 1-3 away at Fulham last weekend.
Something is clearly wrong with Eddie Howe’s team this season. Despite a fine overall record, their performances have been far from optimal and Newcastle do not currently look like a team capable of challenging for European positions.
Newcastle’s back line showed plenty of signs of vulnerability seven days ago at Craven Cottage.
Each of their last five fixtures across competitions produced goals at both ends. Such a poor defensive rhythm of theirs will certainly represent the music to the ears of Erling Haaland.
