Cristiano Ronaldo had missed a penalty in extra time as Portugal failed to break down a resolute Slovenia defence, but he redeemed himself by scoring in the shootout as Portugal booked a quarterfinal against France on Friday.
Portugal’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the hero of the shootout, saving three Slovenia penalties.
