PSG and Aston Villa face off this Wednesday at the Red Bull Arena in UEFA Super Cup. PSG mark their 3rd participation in the competition, whilst Aston Villa go into their 2nd. Both teams have won this tournament before.

Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique have established themselves as one of the greatest teams in UEFA Champions League after becoming only the second club in history to win the tournament in back-to-back years. Victory via a penalty shootout against Premier League winners Arsenal in Budapest cemented PSG’s Champions League legacy and extended their incredible record vs English clubs in Europe.
The Parisians are now unbeaten in their last ten fixtures against English sides across both the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, the latter having also been won by Enrique’s men last season when they defeated Tottenham on penalties after coming back from two goals down to draw level late on.
You have to go back to 1982 for the last time Aston Villa took part in the UEFA Super Cup, which they qualified for after winning the European Cup. Back then, it was a two-legged affair and after losing 1-0 at Camp Nou, Villa roared back to win 3-0 at Villa Park after extra time to lift the trophy. Fast forward to 2026 and the West Midlands based side head to Salzburg for a chance to win the Super League for a second time.
Head coach Unai Emery had long established himself as the king of winning the Europa League and he won it for a fifth time in 2025-26, successfully leading Aston Villa to their first major trophy since 1996. They defeated Bundesliga side Freiburg in the final, winning by three goals to nil in what was a dominating performance. It’s also worth noting that they were the last team to beat PSG in European competition, doing so in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash in 2025, although it was Luis Enrique’s side who progressed on aggregate.
